Charter Night

Charter Night 2010 was held at

Leziate Country Club

on Saturday 30th October

Hunstanton Rotary held their Charter Night  dinner on Saturday 30th October  marking thirty four years of service to the community. It was celebrated with a three course dinner at Leziate Country Club followed, after the formal speeches, by excellent entertainment from Jessica Davidson, a fine singer, and Robert Cox, who is a superb magician and all round entertainer. His forte is audience participation, and as well as performing incredible close up tricks at the tables during the meal, he involved members of the audience throughout the formal part of his performance. In particular he picked on our President, variously using him as a puppet, and as Norman Wisdom, he had the meeting in stitches.

Tribute was paid to the three surviving founder members of the club, Michael Thomas, who is still a member, Eric Hinchliffe, who has attended every charter night since it started, and Frank Fleming. Sadly our other founder club member, Maurice Hughes, passed away last month. He is sorely missed.

There was a raffle , with some excellent prizes, and a competition to guess the value of the President’s chain of office. Josie Wadsworth, the widow of a former member, Don, was the only one to come close to the true value which was much higher than most people thought. She got it right, because she remembered Don talking about the high cost when it was bought by members subscription some thirty years ago.

The magician, Robert Cox, astounds Founder Member Eric Hinchliffe and Josie Wadsworth.
