When there is a fifth Wednesday in the month we always try to do something a bit
different. It doesn’t get any stranger than a group of twenty septuagenarians trying
to play ten pin bowls.
The evening started with a fish and chip supper, and suitably fortified we donned
the shoes and headed for the lanes. Brian, who had organised the event, sorted us
into three teams, two beginners, and one of experts.
There was a surprising spread of bowling styles with great originality sometimes
being effective, but mostly not. Fortunately nobody took it too seriously, and we
all had a good laugh and some good exercise. The occasional lucky ‘strike’ was greeted
with loud cheering. Many thanks to Brian for a very entertaining evening, and wearing
us out for a good night’s sleep.
